Where to start?

Giulia Dal Bon, artist, working on a mural

About

My name is Giulia Dal Bon and I paint with everything I feel.
Every painting grows from the connection with people, from listening, and from the imagination that runs through our lives. I studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and since then walls have become my favourite canvases. I create murals, portraits on canvas, landscapes and commissioned works, personalised and unique. I want to make painting a living art: for weddings and concerts, I turn it into a choreographed performance. I dance with the brush, and the audience watches the painting take shape. It is a magical moment we share. To live from my art, I work from one city to the next, all across Europe: every painting takes me somewhere new.

A painting made live

I create a live painting in front of your guests: I paint during the party for a wedding or a corporate evening, to the rhythm of the music for a concert or a festival. The signed painting is yours at the end of the evening.

Brush-painted murals

Hand-painted murals across Europe

Giulia Dal Bon paints murals by brush, by hand, in houses and villas, children’s bedrooms, hotels, restaurants, shops and offices, in seventeen European countries. She comes to the place, looks at the wall and paints there.

Indoors she uses odourless acrylic, and an equally odourless protective varnish as a finish: the place stays open from the first day to the last. Outdoors, quartz paint, with an anti-salt varnish by the sea or an anti-pollution varnish in town.

A mural is also searched for as a wall mural, wall painting, decorative painting, trompe-l’oeil or hand-painted wall. From 150 € per sqm for a line drawing, 250 € for a fully painted subject, 350 € for a trompe-l’oeil or a ceiling.

How much does a mural cost?

The price is per square metre and follows the technique: from 150 € per sqm for a line drawing or a simple motif, 250 € for a fully painted subject, 350 € for a trompe-l’oeil or a ceiling. In Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden the rate is in local currency, and around twenty prestige destinations are at 400, 600 and 800 €. For a facade, scaffolding is added to the quote when the height calls for it. Free quote within 48 hours, two complimentary sketches.

How do I get a mural painted in my home?

Write to Giulia on WhatsApp or by email with a photo of the wall, or describe it to her: she replies within 48 hours with a free quote. She then draws two free sketches straight onto the photo of your wall, on a tablet, you tell her what you think and she adjusts. Once the sketch is approved, you set the date with her, and she comes to paint at your place, by brush: the place stays open while she works. A mural starts at 150 € per sqm.

Who do I contact to have a wall painted?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints murals by brush in homes as well as in hotels, restaurants and shops. Send her a photo of the wall, its rough dimensions and your idea, however vague: she answers within 48 hours with a free quote and two complimentary sketches.

What is the difference between a brush-painted mural and spray graffiti?

They are two trades. A graffiti writer works with spray cans, with a fast gesture and a graphic result. A brush-painted mural is built layer after layer, which allows gradients, fine detail and trompe-l’oeil: it is a painting made directly on the wall, in odourless acrylic indoors, and the place stays open while she works.

Which countries does Giulia travel to?

Sixteen European countries. The cities listed here are simply the ones with a page of their own: she paints just as readily in a village in the Var, a hamlet in Piedmont or a remote estate. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish. Write to her with the name of your town: the answer comes within 48 hours.

What do you call an artist who paints on walls?

A mural artist, a muralist, or a decorative painter. Giulia Dal Bon is a painter first of all: trained at Brera, she exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls. People search for this work as a hand-painted mural, wall mural, wall painting or decorative painting.

How long does a mural last?

Painted in acrylic by Giulia Dal Bon, a mural lasts a lifetime indoors: the paint becomes part of the plaster and lives as long as the wall. An odourless protective varnish then allows a damp sponge on the areas people touch. Outdoors, quartz paint is made for facades, and an anti-salt or anti-pollution varnish extends its life further.

Can a mural be painted in a rented flat?

Yes, with the owner’s agreement, and the mural is painted over like any other wall when you leave. To take the work with you when you move, Giulia paints on a panel or on canvas at the size of the wall: it hangs like a painting and comes off the wall. The rate stays per square metre, from 150 €.

Live painting

Live painting, made in front of your guests

Giulia also paints live, in front of an audience. At a wedding she sets up her easel during the drinks reception and the couple takes the signed painting home the same evening, from 950 €.

For a concert, a festival or a show, a performance starts at 400 €, and guest portraits, painted during the party, at 500 €. For a company evening, the canvas of the evening, painted in front of the guests, starts at 900 €. It is also called live art, artistic performance or speed painting.

How much does live wedding painting cost?

From 950 € for a painting made during the reception, the signed canvas taken home the same evening. The price follows the size: 950 € for 40×60 cm, 1,200 € for 60×80, 1,500 € for 70×100, 1,800 € for 80×120 or for a full day. Canvas, stretcher, paints and easel are included.

How do I book live painting?

Write to Giulia with the date, the venue and the occasion, a wedding, a concert, a festival, a company evening or a show: she offers you a free quote within 48 hours. You choose the size and the subject with her, and she prepares the composition if needed. On the day, she paints in front of your guests or the audience, and the signed painting is yours that same day. Live painting for a wedding starts at 950 €, for a company evening at 900 €, for a concert at 400 €.

How long does Giulia paint on site?

The length is agreed with you. Twenty minutes during a song, an hour through the drinks reception, a whole evening or several days at a festival: she fits the programme. A live performance starts at 400 €, a wedding painting at 950 €. The agreed length is written in the quote, with the arrival time for setting up.

Can a painting be made live during a concert or a festival?

Yes. Giulia paints standing, to the rhythm of the music, and the canvas is revealed to the audience at the end of the set. She needs a space of about two by two metres, a power socket and some light if the evening runs late; she brings her easel, canvases and paints. She has already painted live at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan and at the Festival Gaber in Camaiore. From 400 € for a concert, a festival or a show, free quote within 48 hours.

Can a painting be made live during a company evening?

Yes. During a seminar, a gala, a launch or an end-of-year party, Giulia paints the canvas of the evening in front of the guests, with the logo or the brand colours if you wish, and the company keeps the signed painting. She can also paint guest portraits during the evening. The invoice is issued to the company. From 900 € for the canvas of the evening, from 1 200 € for guest portraits, free quote within 48 hours.

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as your date is set. Giulia replies within 48 hours and tells you whether she is free; for a wedding it is best to write several months ahead, and if your date is close, write anyway.

Hand-painted canvases

Portraits, landscapes and paintings on commission

From your photos, Giulia paints a portrait, a family portrait, a portrait of your pet, a memorial portrait of someone dear, the landscape of a place that matters, or a painting made from an image generated by artificial intelligence. In acrylic, on canvas or on paper, shipped across Europe.

From 90 € on A4 paper, 180 € on canvas 30×40 cm, 240 € at 40×50 cm, 320 € at 50×70 cm: the size sets the price, one face like a whole family. People search for this as a portrait from photo, custom portrait, custom painting or hand-painted portrait.

How much does a hand-painted portrait cost?

From 90 € on A4 paper, 180 € on canvas at 30×40 cm, 240 € at 40×50 cm, 320 € at 50×70 cm. The size sets the price: one face or a whole family costs the same. The first two sketches are complimentary and revisions are included. Shipping is added at cost, sent from the country of destination.

How do I commission a portrait or a landscape from a photo?

Send Giulia your photos, even old ones, of the person or the place that matters to you, and she brings your idea to life with you. She sends you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your painting is delivered to your home, carefully packed. A portrait starts at 90 €.

Which photos should I send for a portrait?

One sharp photo, taken in daylight if possible, is enough, even from a phone. Several photos help Giulia catch the right expression. An old, damaged or black and white image works very well as a starting point: painting gives it its colours back. She proposes two complimentary sketches before painting, and you approve the composition.

Can a landscape or a house be painted instead of a face?

Yes. The family house, the grandparents' village, the view from the holiday terrace, the cove you return to every summer, a wedding venue or the place where you met: Giulia paints the place from your photos, and you choose the season and the time of day. Same sizes, same prices as a portrait, from 90 €.

How long does a painting take?

The timing is written in the quote, which arrives within 48 hours. For a gift with a fixed date, a birthday or Christmas, say so in your first message: Giulia plans the work so the painting arrives in time, and gives plenty of notice if anything changes.

Hand-painted

Gifts, shops and mural restoration

The gift certificate can be given at any time and stays valid for as long as the person wishes. For a wedding, a birthday, Christmas or Mother’s Day, the painting is ordered with the date, and it arrives in time.

For shops, Giulia hand-paints the window, the menu and the blackboard, the sign. And for an old decor, she restores a fresco or a painted ceiling, with a test on a sample area included in the price.

Can a mural or live painting be given as a gift?

Yes. The gift certificate also covers a mural or live painting. You place the order and pay; for live painting given to a couple, you let the wedding planner know, and the surprise stays whole.

How do I give a painting or a gift certificate?

Write to Giulia with the occasion and the date, she replies within 48 hours. For a painting, you choose the subject and the size; with a gift certificate, valid whenever the person wishes, they choose. You place the order and pay, and the painting is shipped to you or straight to the person, carefully packed.

Can a shop window, a menu board or a sign be hand-painted?

Yes, all three, by hand and by brush, for a shop, a restaurant, a bar or a salon. A window painted for Christmas, for the sales or for an opening; a menu and a blackboard drawn like a page; a sign painted the old way. Giulia also studied graphic design at the Brera Academy. The rate follows the mural grid, from 150 € per sqm.

Can an old fresco or painted decor be restored?

Yes. A ceiling darkened by time, a flaking decor in a stairwell, a fresco whose colours have faded: Giulia recovers them by brush, and she studied restoration at the Brera Academy. She starts with a test on a sample area, included in the price: you see what the decor becomes again before deciding. Often cleaning alone brings the colours back.

How does payment work?

The quote is free and arrives within 48 hours, with the size, the timing and the amount. For a mural, a deposit of around 100 € covers materials and colours, and the balance is settled at the end. For a painting, the deposit is 50 % once the sketch is approved, the balance at the end. The first two sketches are free.

Can I see previous work?

Yes, the portfolio gathers the murals, the live paintings, the portraits and the graphic work. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have covered her work, and her mural of over twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. The press page collects the articles.
