Painting the exact spot

A bench, a street corner, a café terrace, a quay, a square in Venice, a stairway in Lisbon, the hall of a station: Giulia Dal Bon paints the exact spot with a brush, in acrylic, from a photo or from what you describe of it. It is a painting that belongs to you, because that place holds that meaning for you and for the person you love.

The moment matters as much as the place: the night and its lights, a winter morning, rain on the cobbles, summer at seven in the evening. Say the hour and the season you remember, Giulia sets the light accordingly. A current view of the place is enough as a base, and you correct on the sketch whatever has changed.

The figures are up to you: the painting can stay empty, keep two figures seen from behind, or show the scene as it happened, from your photos of the time.

Giving it, and the size

It is a gift for the anniversary of a first meeting, a proposal, a silver wedding or Valentine’s Day, and it works for every story: the spot of a first kiss, the city of a founding trip, the home of a first year together, the room where you said yes. You can also have it painted for yourself, simply because the place matters.

The 30×40 cm suits a tight scene, a bench, a door, a street corner; the 40×50 cm a view of a square or a quay; the 50×70 cm a city panorama. On paper, a framed A4 makes an elegant gift that is easy to give. Give Giulia the date in your first message.

Your questions, before commissioning

How much does this painting cost?

From 90 € on paper in A4, 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm, 320 € in 50×70 cm. The size sets the price, a street corner as much as a whole square. Large formats and very detailed views are quoted separately, with a reply within 48 hours. The first two sketches are included: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Shipping is added at cost, sent from the destination country.

How do I commission a painting of the place where you met?

Send Giulia Dal Bon a photo of the place where you met, or describe it to her, and she brings your idea to life with you. She sends you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your painting arrives at your door, carefully packed. A painting starts at 90 €.

Who paints the picture?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints with a brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work.

What exactly do you receive?

The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size you choose, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the destination country. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.

We have zero photos from that day, what then?

That works very well with what exists today. A current photo of the place, taken by you or by a friend on the spot, serves as the base, and you tell what was different: the old sign, the tables outside, the season. Giulia rebuilds the scene and shows it to you on the sketch; you correct before she paints.

Can we appear in the painting?

Yes, from other photos, or as figures seen from behind if you prefer to stay discreet. Two people at a table, an outstretched hand, a scene seen from afar: you choose, and you approve the position on the sketch. The price follows the size of the canvas.

Can a whole city be painted rather than one precise spot?

Yes. Venice and the Grand Canal, the roofs of Paris, a street in Lisbon, the Bay of Naples: the city is painted like a landscape. Send two or three photos and say what you want in the foreground. In 50×70 cm the view reads from across the room.

Can I choose night rather than day?

Yes, and night scenes render beautifully in acrylic: shop-window lights, reflections on wet cobbles, a deep blue sky. Say the mood, Giulia builds it in layers and shows it to you on the sketch before painting.

It is a surprise, how do I go about it?

You send the photo and the date to Giulia, she replies within 48 hours with a free quote, proposes two sketches, paints, then sends you photos of the finished painting before shipping. The parcel goes to you or straight to the address you give, with a note from you.

Can it be given before knowing which place to choose?

Yes, with the gift certificate: you give the painting, the person then chooses their place, their size and their medium, directly with Giulia. It stays valid for as long as they wish, and the amount adjusts to the chosen size, from 90 €.

How much time should I allow?

The sketch arrives quickly. Then allow about a week between the approved sketch and the shipping of the painting, plus a few days in transit: the exact lead time is written in the quote. For a fixed date, a birthday, a retirement, a signing at the notary, say so in your first message: Giulia organises the work so the painting arrives on time, and lets you know well in advance if the schedule moves.
