Painting what the camera missed
Some places now live in memory alone: the house that was demolished, the country left as a child, the bedroom of another time, a landscape seen only once. Others belong to the imagination: a dreamed garden, an island, an invented city, a setting that comes back in sleep. Giulia Dal Bon paints them from what you tell her, and from every picture that comes close: an old photo, a postcard, a child’s drawing, an image found online.
The method is the same as for a real landscape: you describe, she proposes two included sketches, you correct, she paints. This is where the sketch matters most, because it puts your memory into pictures before the first colour, and you can put it right as many times as it takes.
Many people arrive today with an image generated by artificial intelligence. It makes a very useful starting point: it gives the pose, the light and the mood. Giulia turns it into a hand-painted picture, in true proportions, corrected wherever the image goes wrong.
The size, and the occasion
A tight memory, a room, a window, an object in a setting, fits in 30×40 cm; a landscape asks for the 40×50 cm or the 50×70 cm, where it becomes the centrepiece of a wall. On paper, a framed A4 suits a simple scene and travels easily.
This painting is ordered for yourself, to tell where you come from, or to give to a parent who left their country, to someone who lost a house, to a child growing up far from where they were born. Give the date if the gift has a set day: the actual timing is written in the quote.

Who paints the picture?
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints with a brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. What exactly do you receive?
The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size you choose, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the destination country. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.
I only have a memory in my head: is that enough to start?
Yes, it is enough. Write down what you see: the place, the hour, the colours, what stood to the left and to the right, what you felt. Giulia makes a first sketch of it, you correct it, she makes a second. The first two are included, and that back-and-forth is what makes the painting look like your memory.
Can we start from an image generated by AI?
Yes, and many people do. The image gives the composition, the light and the mood; Giulia paints it by hand, adjusts the proportions and corrects what these images almost always need, the hands, the faces, the perspectives. The painting becomes an original work, in the dimensions and colours you have chosen.
Can my parents’ home country be painted?
Yes, and it is a gift that touches people. An old photo, a postcard, a picture of the village found online, plus what the family tells: Giulia composes the view and shows it to you as a sketch. You adjust the details with the person concerned if possible, or from your own memories.
Can several memories be mixed in one painting?
Yes, provided the whole stays readable: the house in the foreground and the village mountain behind, the boat and the beach of another year. Giulia harmonises proportions and light so the scene holds together, and you approve the composition on the sketch.
Can a house that has since disappeared be painted?
Yes. From the photos that remain, from plans if you have them, and from what the family remembers, Giulia rebuilds the façade, the garden, the colour of the shutters. She shows you the reconstruction on the sketch and you correct before the painting. This is often the painting the family keeps.
How many rounds of changes are possible?
The first two sketches are included, and during the painting Giulia shows the progress and adjusts with you as she goes: you tell her what you think, she corrects. If the subject changes completely along the way and everything has to start again, that becomes a new painting, and the quote is redone.
