A mountain is known by its line

What makes a peak recognisable is its outline: the ridge, the face that catches the evening sun, the snowfield that lingers late, the shape of the pass beside it. Giulia Dal Bon paints it with a brush, in acrylic, from your photos, and works the low light that gives the relief. You tell her the hour and the season: the pink of the Dolomites at sunset, the blue snow of the morning, the short grass of the pasture in August.

The chalet paints as well as the landscape: the dark wood, the geraniums on the balconies, the snow on the roof, the larches behind, the path climbing up. A front-on photo and two side views are enough, and Giulia clears away cables, ski lifts or cars if you wish.

A mountain lake, a torrent, a herd, an alpine hut, a piste early in the morning: each subject fits on a canvas and keeps the particular light of altitude.

The size, and the occasion

In 50×70 cm the massif unfolds and the painting holds a living-room or chalet wall, above a fireplace. The 40×50 cm suits a bedroom or a corridor, the 30×40 cm a shelf, and the A4 on paper a detail, a chalet, a single peak, a hut. Send a photo of the wall, Giulia advises on the size by looking at the space.

It is given to those who grew up there, to a guide, to a couple who met in the mountains, or to mark a climb. It is also the painting hung in a rental chalet so it carries the landscape of its valley. Give Giulia the date in your first message, the timing is written in the quote.

Your questions, before commissioning

How much does a mountain painting cost?

From 90 € on paper in A4, 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm, 320 € in 50×70 cm. The size sets the price, a single chalet as much as a whole massif. Large formats and very detailed views are quoted separately, with a reply within 48 hours. The first two sketches are included: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Shipping is added at cost, sent from the destination country.

Who paints the picture?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints with a brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work.

What exactly do you receive?

The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size you choose, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the destination country. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.

Which photo should I send for a peak?

A photo taken in clear weather, where the ridge and the faces stand out, ideally in the morning or late in the day, when the low light gives the relief. Send several if you have them: a wide one for the valley, a tight one for the summit. Giulia composes the framing and shows it to you on the sketch.

Can the peak be painted in winter from a summer photo?

Yes. The snow is added, the larches change colour, the sky hardens: Giulia repaints the scene in the season you want from the same photo. Simply say the month you have in mind, and you see the result on the sketch before she paints.

Can the chalet be painted rather than the landscape?

Yes, it is a beautiful subject: the wood, the flowered balconies, the snow on the roof, the light on inside. A front-on photo and two from the side are enough. Giulia clears away power lines, aerials and vehicles, and you decide what stays on the sketch.

Can people, a dog, a herd be added?

Yes, from other photos. Two figures on the path, a skier on the piste, the dog in the snow, cows in the pasture: everything is placed at the right scale, and you approve the position on the sketch. The price follows the size of the canvas.

Which size for a mountain panorama?

The 50×70 cm lets the range unfold and reads from across the room: it is the truest size for a massif. The 40×50 cm suits a single peak or a chalet. For a very large format above a fireplace, the quote is drawn up to measure within 48 hours.

Can a ski resort or a piste be painted?

Yes. The resort village under snow, the piste early in the morning, the line of fir trees, the chairlift in the distance if you wish: the subject is composed like a landscape. For a hotel or a high-altitude restaurant, the same subject can also be painted directly on a wall.

Will the painting cope with a wood-heated chalet?

Yes. Acrylic and the final varnish hold up well. Just avoid hanging it right above a stove or a fireplace in use, where heat and soot rise, and prefer a neighbouring wall: the painting will keep its colours for years there.

How do I commission a mountain painting?

Send Giulia Dal Bon a photo of the mountain, or describe it to her, and she brings your idea to life with you. She sends you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your painting arrives at your door, carefully packed. A painting starts at 90 €.

Can the mountain be painted on a wall of the chalet?

Yes. A peak painted on the wall of a living room, a hallway or a corridor gives the place its landscape. The price then follows the mural grid, from 150 € per sqm for a line drawing and 250 € for a fully painted landscape.
