Your questions, before commissioning

How much does a family portrait cost?

The same price as a single portrait: from 90 € on paper in A4, from 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm, 320 € in 50×70 cm. The rate follows the size alone. Gathering three generations therefore costs the price of the chosen canvas. The first two sketches remain free and adjusted with you.

How do I commission a family portrait?

Send Giulia Dal Bon your photos, even old ones, of your family, together or separately, and she brings your idea to life with you. She offers you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your portrait is delivered to your home, carefully packed. A portrait starts at 90 €.

Who paints the portrait?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints by brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. What exactly do I receive?

The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size chosen, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the country of destination. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free of charge, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50 % deposit after the sketch is approved, the balance at the end.

Which size for a family of four or five?

From four figures, the 50×70 cm gives every face room to exist; below that, the 40×50 cm suits two or three well. For a big family or three generations, a larger format is quoted individually. The complimentary sketch shows the real effect: if the composition breathes better in a larger size, Giulia says so before painting, while everything can still change.

How is a family portrait painted?

You send the photos you have: a group photo if one exists, or separate photos of each person. Giulia composes the painting from the whole set, and the first two sketches, free, show the arrangement before painting: who goes where, at what proportions, on what background. She then paints by brush while showing progress, and touch-ups are included until the painting is right.

Can several generations be gathered in the same painting?

Yes, and it is one of the most moving commissions: grandparents beside grandchildren, sometimes from photos taken decades apart. Painting brings together what photographs kept separate. The complimentary sketch lets everyone discuss it calmly: each person finds their place, and the painting becomes the whole family’s, hung in the room everyone passes through.

A child’s portrait, for which occasion?

A birth, a christening, a birthday, or simply the age you want to keep. A painted portrait holds childhood differently from a photograph: the brush chooses what matters, the gaze, the dimple, the favourite soft toy. It is a gift parents and grandparents keep for decades, and that the child watches growing up alongside them.

Can the dog or cat be in the family painting?

Of course, and they often are: a pet is part of the family. Giulia writes them into the composition as a full character, in their natural place, in a child’s arms or lying in the foreground. Is the family portrait a good group gift?

It is the group gift par excellence: brothers and sisters giving the painting to their parents for a wedding anniversary, grandchildren chipping in for the grandparents.
