Painting at the water’s edge

Genoa holds its congresses at the Porto Antico, facing the boats, and its evenings in palaces whose ceilings have been painted since the seventeenth century. It is a setting that calls for paint. Giulia works in front of the guests, at the pace of the evening, and the canvas leaves the same night.

She paints the harbour and the Lanterna, the alleys of the old town, the façade of a Rolli palace, the brand’s motif, or the scene of the evening with the faces present. She can also sketch the guests one by one.

In practice, for a company in Genoa

Send the date, the venue and the number of guests. Giulia replies within 48 hours with a free, itemised quote and an invoice made out to the company. Two complimentary sketches, adjusted with you.

By the sea the salt air calls for care with drying: the acrylic she uses dries fast and holds up in the open air, so an evening on a terrace or a quay paints as well as an evening indoors.

Event venues in Genoa and Liguria

Giulia travels to the event venues of the city: the Porto Antico Congress Centre, set in the Magazzini del Cotone restored to a design by Renzo Piano, thirteen rooms and an auditorium of one thousand four hundred and eighty seats divisible into two halls of seven hundred and forty, with eight thousand five hundred square metres of exhibition space. And to the Rolli palaces, the seafront hotels and the company headquarters of the centre.

She also works in Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino, Rapallo, Camogli, Recco, Chiavari, Lavagna, Sestri Levante, Zoagli, Bogliasco, Sori, Savona, Alassio and Sanremo.

Your questions, before booking

How do I book live painting for a corporate event in Genoa?

Tell Giulia Dal Bon the date, the venue and the occasion, and she brings your idea to life with you. She offers you a free quote within 48 hours. Before the day, you choose the size and the subject together, and she prepares the composition if needed. On the day, she paints in front of your guests, event in Genoa, and the signed painting is yours that same day. The invoice is made out to the company. Live painting for a company evening starts at 900 €.

Which artist does live painting for companies in Genoa?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in galleries, paints murals in sixteen countries, and paints live on stage and at evening events: at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, and at the Festival Gaber in Camaiore on 6 July 2017, alongside the guitarist Gianni Martini. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish, and comes to Genoa as she does all over Europe, to a congress centre or to your own offices.

Can she paint outdoors, on a quay or a terrace?

Yes. Acrylic dries fast and holds up in the open air, so an evening on a quay of the Porto Antico or on a hotel terrace paints as well as one indoors. Plan for some light if the evening runs late, and a square sheltered from the wind.

And for a congress lasting several days?

The canvas can advance across the whole congress, in the foyer or the coffee area: participants find it a little further along each morning, and it is revealed at the closing. The length is decided with you and written into the quote.

How much does live painting cost for a company evening?

From €900 for a live performance, and the length is decided with you: twenty minutes during a speech, an hour at the drinks reception, or the whole evening. Portraits of your guests, sketched during the evening, start at €1,200. A large format or a full day starts at €2,400. Giulia Dal Bon sends a free quote within 48 hours, itemised line by line so it slots into a budget, with an invoice made out to the company.

What exactly does the company receive?

The canvas, signed, handed over the same evening. The high-resolution file of the painting, for your internal communications, your intranet and your social media. The invoice made out to the company, itemised line by line.

What happens to the painting after the evening?

It stays with the company, hung in reception or in a meeting room: it is the trace of the evening, and everyone who was there recognises it. It can also be given to a departing director, handed to a client, auctioned for a charity, or drawn among the guests. Giulia signs it if you wish.

Can the logo or the brand colours go into the painting?

Yes. Giulia also studied graphic design at the Brera Academy: she draws the lettering by hand and builds the canvas around the company’s colours. The logo can appear painted, or stay out and let the palette speak. It is decided beforehand, on the two complimentary sketches, with your management or your agency.

Can the team take part?

Yes, in three ways. Giulia paints the large canvas of the evening, the venue or the brand motif, and your guests write on it whatever they like: the work leaves with their words on it, like a painted guest book. Everyone can also add a brushstroke, or each team can paint a section that she then ties together. And she paints watercolour portraits of the guests, one by one, each of them leaving with their own. Tell her how many people and how much time you have, and she adapts.

What does Giulia need on site?

A square of about two metres by two, a power socket and some light. She arrives with her easel, her canvases and her paints, protects the floor around her and leaves with her own equipment. The acrylic she uses dries fast, so the canvas leaves the same evening.

Where has Giulia already painted live?

On stages, in theatres, at weddings and at company evenings: she has painted live hundreds of times, dozens of them with the piano and painting show she performs as a duo. Two of those dates are public: at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, for Play Green, she painted alongside the illustrator Francesco Barcella, on a reclaimed wooden panel supplied by the Di Nuovo craftsmen. And on 6 July 2017, in Camaiore, for the fourteenth Festival Gaber, she painted under the Arco di Via Vittorio Emanuele beside the guitarist Gianni Martini. The links are on the Press page.
