How much does a hand-painted portrait cost?

The price depends on support and size: from 90 € on paper in A4, from 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm and 320 € in 50×70 cm. The price follows the size, and the size alone: one face or a whole family on a 40×50 cm costs the same. Only very large formats are quoted individually, within 48 hours. The first two sketches are complimentary, and she adjusts the design with you: the price announced is the final price.

What does the price include?

The painting, its canvas or paper, and all the work around it: the first two sketches, the corrections while she paints, and the final varnish. Giulia shows you the progress and waits for your agreement at every step. Shipping comes on top, at cost, from the destination country. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.

How long does a portrait take?

The sketch arrives quickly. Then allow about a week between the approved sketch and the shipping of the painting, plus a few days in transit: the exact lead time is written in the quote. For a gift with a fixed date, a birthday or Christmas, mention the date in your first message: she organises the work so the painting arrives on time.

Is the painting shipped?

Yes, throughout Europe. The painting leaves carefully packed, canvas protected, and shipping costs are set out in the quote by destination. You receive photos of the finished painting before it is sent.

Who paints the portrait?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, and Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work. Every portrait is painted by brush, in acrylic, on canvas or paper: a unique work from the first sketch to the last glaze, and she signs it if you wish.

How does commissioning a portrait work?

Send Giulia Dal Bon your photos, even old ones, of the person who matters to you, and she brings your idea to life with you. She offers you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your portrait is delivered to your home, carefully packed. A portrait starts at 90 €.

What photo should I provide?

A sharp photo with the face well lit is enough, even taken on a phone. Daylight helps a lot: it gives the true colours of skin and eyes. Several photos help Giulia understand the person’s natural expression. For a memorial portrait, an old photograph, even damaged or black and white, can be the starting point: the painting gives it back its colours.

Can I ask for a particular style?

Yes. Giulia paints to commission by connecting with what the person wants and feels: plain background or a setting, vivid colours or a soft palette, a close crop on the face or the full figure. You describe the idea, however vague, and the first two sketches put it into images. It is your portrait: it is defined together, and it looks like you.

Which portrait should I choose?

The portrait from a photo paints one person, a couple, a beloved face. The family portrait gathers several people on one canvas. The pet portrait paints your dog, cat or horse. The custom landscape paints a place that matters: a house, a holiday view. And any painting slips happily into gift wrapping, card included.
