Bringing the place home
A holiday place lives in a few images: the line of the coast, the colour of the water at that hour, the pines in the foreground, the bell tower at the back of the bay, the parasols in a row. Giulia Dal Bon paints the scene with a brush, in acrylic, from the photos you took, and you can tell her at what time of day you love that place.
That choice of light is what sets it apart from a photo print: the same view can become a clear morning, a golden late afternoon or an August night. Send several photos if you have them, even imperfect ones: one gives the framing, another the colour of the sky, a third a detail you love, the blue boat, the table laid outside.
The scene can be lived in: two deckchairs, a child running on the sand, the family at the table under the vine. The painting then keeps the place, and with it the summer you spent there.
The size, and the occasion
Landscape loves width: the 50×70 cm is its natural size above a sofa or a chest of drawers, the 40×50 cm suits a bedroom or a study, where the view acts as a window. On paper, a framed A4 builds a lovely series if you have one place painted per summer, year after year.
This painting is ordered on returning from holiday, when the photos are fresh, or for Christmas, as a gift to those who share the house. It is also the gift owners give their children when the seaside house is passed on, and the one friends give after renting the same place for ten years. Large formats and very detailed views are quoted separately, with a reply within 48 hours. The first two sketches are included: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Shipping is added at cost, sent from the destination country.

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints with a brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. What exactly do you receive?
The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size you choose, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the destination country. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.
My holiday photos were taken on a phone, is that enough?
Yes. A phone photo gives the lines, the colours and the light, which is all that is needed. Choose the ones where the horizon is sharp and the space reads clearly, and send several: Giulia composes the painting from the whole set and shows you the chosen framing on the sketch before painting.
Can the time of day or the season of the photo be changed?
Yes, and that is often what makes the painting ring true. A midday photo becomes late afternoon, an overcast sky opens up, the sea takes the colour it has in August. Say the mood you remember, Giulia rethinks the light of the place: that is the difference between a painting and a reproduction.
Can several spots be brought together in one painting?
Yes, as long as the whole stays readable: the house in the foreground and the bay behind, the harbour and the hill, the beach and the path that leads to it. Giulia harmonises proportions and light so the composition holds, and you approve the whole on the sketch before she paints.
Can we appear in the landscape?
Yes, from other photos. Two figures on the sand, the family under the vine, the child at the water’s edge: the figures go where you want them, at the scale of the scene. The price follows the size of the canvas, one figure as much as a whole family.
Which size for a sea view?
Width serves the subject: in 50×70 cm the bay breathes and reads from across the room, in 40×50 cm it sits well above a bed or a desk. On paper, the A4 works for a detail, a boat, a hut, a stretch of beach. Send a photo of the wall, Giulia advises on the size by looking at the space.
Will the painting cope with a house by the sea?
Yes. Acrylic lasts over time on canvas as on paper, and a final varnish protects the surface: it is included in the price. Hang it away from direct sunlight, in a room that gets aired now and then, as with any painting. On paper, framing behind glass adds useful protection in a house open to sea spray.
Can we give it to the owners of the house?
Yes, and it is a lovely end-of-stay gesture. A photo of the house or of the view from the terrace is enough. Giulia replies within 48 hours with a free quote, proposes two sketches, and you receive photos of the finished painting before shipping, to prepare the handover.
How long before Christmas should I order?
Allow three weeks to be safe: that leaves time for the sketches, the painting, the drying and the shipping. Give the date in your first message, the actual timing is written in the quote and Giulia plans the calendar so the painting arrives in time.
Can this view be painted on a wall of the house?
Yes. The bay, the pine grove or the horizon can be painted directly on a wall, at home or in the holiday house. The price then follows the mural grid, from 150 € per sqm as a line drawing and 250 € for a fully painted landscape.
