How much does a dog or cat portrait cost?

From 90 € on paper in A4, from 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm, 320 € in 50×70 cm. Two animals on the same canvas, or the pet with their human, cost the same: the price follows the size alone. Only very large formats are quoted individually, reply within 48 hours. The first two sketches are complimentary and she adjusts them with you: the painting leaves when it truly looks like your companion.

Who paints the portrait?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints by brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. What exactly do I receive?

The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size chosen, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the country of destination. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free of charge, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50 % deposit after the sketch is approved, the balance at the end.

Which size for a pet portrait?

The 30×40 cm makes a fine head-and-shoulders portrait, muzzle and gaze; the 40×50 cm leaves room for the whole body or a worked background; the 50×70 cm turns the painting into a real piece for the living room. On paper, a framed A4 is a much-loved gift for animal lovers. If in doubt, send a photo of the wall: Giulia advises by looking at the space.

What photo should I take of my pet?

Get down to their level, in daylight, and draw their gaze towards you or just above the lens: the gaze makes the portrait. Several photos help, even imperfect ones: one for the pose, one for the coat colour, one for the expression. For a pet that keeps moving, a short video also works: Giulia picks out the right instant.

Can a pet who has passed away be painted?

Yes, and Giulia paints these commissions with particular care. The photos that remain are enough, even old or blurry: the painting recovers the presence, the animal’s way of being, everything that overflows the photograph. The painting gives the eyes somewhere to return to. Many people also offer it to someone who has lost their companion.

Dogs, cats, horses: which animals does she paint?

All the ones that matter to you. Dogs, cats and horses make magnificent paintings, and a rabbit, a parrot or a tortoise get the same seriousness. A painting can also gather several animals, or the pet with their human: the composition is settled on the complimentary sketch, before painting.
