Getting married in Provence

Why do so many couples marry in Provence?
Provence is the most requested destination wedding region in France: bastides, mas and estates between the Luberon, the Alpilles and Aix-en-Provence. Giulia Dal Bon paints live wedding paintings there, from 950 € for the painting made on site, work handed over. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish, which matters when guests come from several countries. Free quote within 48 hours.
Why does a painter love Provence?
Because here people painted in order to live. From 1343 Matteo Giovannetti decorated the papal palace in Avignon for Clement VI: the Chambre du Cerf, 1343-1345, a garden painted all around the room, scenes of hunting and fishing, then the Saint-Martial chapel, 1344-1345. These are walls made to be lived in, for a home rather than a church. Giulia paints a wedding in Provence with those shaded greens, those ochres and that late-day light on the bastides.
What does the painting show?
The moment you choose: the ceremony, the exit, the first dance, the cocktail hour with the guests, or the venue itself with the couple in the foreground. Giulia prepares the composition beforehand from your photographs and images of the venue, then paints on site in Provence. You know what you will get before the day itself.
Does Giulia know the area?
She comes to Provence and travels across seventeen European countries. She looks at the venue before painting: the light, the colours, the architecture, and what the view gives at cocktail hour. Send her the name of your venue and she will tell you what she would make of it.
The wedding venues in Provence
Giulia travels to the villas and reception venues of the area: Château de Robernier, Bastide de Puget, Domaine des Barrenques, Mas de la Rose, Airelles Gordes La Bastide, Domaine de Fontenille.
From the courtyard of Château de Robernier, on the canvas you can see the Provençal façade behind the couple and the plane trees casting their shade. At Mas de la Rose, the dry-stone walls and the Alpilles at the back. At Airelles Gordes, the hilltop village and the Luberon valley below.
She also works in Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Gordes, Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Roussillon, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, Arles, Cassis, Uzès, Cotignac, Lorgues, Montfort-sur-Argens, Fontvieille, Eygalières, Maussane, the Luberon, the Alpilles, the Camargue.
Does Giulia work in the great villas and estates?
Yes, and she adapts to the house rules of each venue: she stands where she is least in the way, protects the floor around her and leaves with her equipment the same evening. Simply let your venue and your wedding planner know. She also works with agencies and provides a detailed quote that drops straight into a budget.
What is the best season in Provence?
June, July and September gather more than half of the estate weddings in the region. Giulia paints in acrylic, which dries fast and handles open air, so an outdoor wedding paints as well as one indoors. Allow for light if she paints in the evening and shelter in case of rain. The dates still open are in the quote, sent within 48 hours. Giulia is available all year round, winter dates included.
What do we need to arrange on site?
A space of roughly two by two metres, away from the flow but visible to the guests, a power socket and light if she paints in the evening. Giulia brings her easel, canvases, acrylics and brushes. That is all the venue needs to know.
Giulia also paints commissioned murals in the area: see murals in Provence.
Music at your wedding in Provence: the piano and painting show
For your wedding celebration in Provence, Giulia also offers the piano and painting show. Orlando plays a neoclassical repertoire, in the line of Ludovico Einaudi or Hania Rani, and Giulia paints while he plays, before guests who take the time to watch and photograph the canvas. On the last note the painting is revealed, and it is yours to keep. The show is prepared with you and your wedding venue, on request.
Live painting in Provence, for another occasion
An evening in Provence is rarely put together twice the same way. Giulia starts from what you describe, suggests a format and tunes it to the room and the moment. A festival that wants a second stage, a venue looking for a finale, a company hosting its clients: you set the frame, she brings the painting.
A concert or a festival in Provence On stage or beside it, she paints to the rhythm of the set and shows the canvas on the last note. From 400 €.
A company evening in Provence The painting of the evening takes shape in front of your clients and leaves with the company. Invoice in its name, from 900 €.
A private party, a birthday, an opening Through the party she paints and sketches the guests in watercolour, each with their own. From 400 €.
