Painting the house that mattered

A family home lives in small things: the colour of the façade, the shape of the shutters, the tree planted out front, the worn step at the door, the window of the bedroom upstairs. Giulia Dal Bon paints all of it with a brush, in acrylic, from the photos you send her, and you can tell her what the house means to you. That story guides the light of the painting, the season, the time of day.

Old photos are enough, even small ones, even in black and white: the paint brings back the colours, the render, the green of the gate, the roof tiles. When several photos exist, send them all, each keeps a detail the others have lost. And if the house has changed, Giulia can paint it as it was, from what you describe and what the pictures show.

The house can be lived in: two figures on the doorstep, a child in the garden, the dog lying by the door. The painting then becomes the portrait of a place and a moment, and you see where everyone stands from the very first sketch.

The size, and when to give it

The 30×40 cm sits happily on a chest of drawers or a shelf; the 40×50 cm suits a living-room or hallway wall; the 50×70 cm gives the house a real presence, visible from across the room. On paper, a framed A4 makes a lovely gift that is easy to send. When in doubt, send a photo of the wall: Giulia advises on the size by looking at the space.

A house gets painted when it changes hands: a sale, an inheritance, a move, a retirement. Brothers and sisters give it to their parents, children have it painted for each of them, in several copies. Tell Giulia the date in your first message: the actual timing is written in the quote, and she plans the calendar so the painting arrives in time.

Your questions, before commissioning

How much does a painting of the family home cost?

From 90 € on paper in A4, 180 € on canvas in 30×40 cm, 240 € in 40×50 cm, 320 € in 50×70 cm. The size sets the price, a simple façade as much as a house with its whole garden. Large formats and very detailed views are quoted separately, with a reply within 48 hours. The first two sketches are included: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Shipping is added at cost, sent from the destination country.

How do I commission a painting of the family home?

Send Giulia Dal Bon a photo of the family home, or describe it to her, and she brings your idea to life with you. She sends you a free quote within 48 hours, then two free sketches: you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. She paints, you follow the progress, and your painting arrives at your door, carefully packed. A painting starts at 90 €.

Who paints the picture?

Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries, paints with a brush, on canvas or on paper, from your photos, and ships the painting anywhere in Europe, carefully packed. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work.

What exactly do you receive?

The painting itself, on canvas or on paper depending on the size you choose, varnished, signed if you wish, and carefully packed for shipping, sent from the destination country. Before that, you receive the first two sketches, free, and you follow the progress in photos. A 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, balance at the end.

Which photo of the house should I send?

A photo taken from the front, in daylight, showing the whole façade and a little of what surrounds it. Add two or three more if you have them: a view from the gate, one of the garden, a detail of the door. If your only picture is old or blurred, it is enough: Giulia uses it as a starting point and shows you the composition as a sketch before painting.

The house has been sold, I only have old photos.

That is the most moving case, and it works very well. A holiday snapshot, a family photo taken by the door, a picture cut from an album: Giulia finds the lines in it, the colour of the walls, where the trees stood. You fill in from memory what the picture lacks, and the sketch lets you correct things before the first brushstroke.

Can the house be painted as it was before the renovation?

Yes. The original shutters, the wisteria that disappeared, the well that was filled in, the colour before the render was redone: Giulia repaints the house in its former state from your photos and your memories. She shows you the reconstruction on the sketch, you approve it, then she paints. That is what gives the painting its value for the family.

Can people be added in front of the house?

Yes, from other photos. The grandparents on the bench, the children on the path, the dog at the foot of the steps: Giulia harmonises proportions and light so the scene holds together. You approve everyone’s place on the sketch. The price follows the size of the canvas, one figure as much as a whole family.

Can the same painting be given to several children?

Yes. Giulia paints several versions of the same subject, each by hand, with its own variations: they are originals, painted one by one. Say so at the quote stage so the calendar allows for the number. Each painting leaves carefully packed, to the address you give, and you receive photos of each one before it ships.

How much time should I allow?

The sketch arrives quickly. Then allow about a week between the approved sketch and the shipping of the painting, plus a few days in transit: the exact lead time is written in the quote. For a fixed date, a birthday, a retirement, a signing at the notary, say so in your first message: Giulia organises the work so the painting arrives on time, and lets you know well in advance if the schedule moves.

Is the painting signed?

If you wish, Giulia signs it, discreetly, in a corner. She is a painter, trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, and exhibits her paintings in art galleries: the signature is that of an original work, painted with a brush for you alone.

How does payment work?

The quote is free and arrives within 48 hours, with the size, the timing and the amount. You pay a 50% deposit once the sketch is approved, and the balance at the end, when the painting is right for you. Shipping is added at cost and leaves from the destination country, which shortens the journey and protects the canvas better. For a gift, the parcel can go straight to the person, with a note from you.

Can the house also be painted on a wall?

Yes. What Giulia does on canvas, she also does directly on a wall, at your home: a view of the family home in a hallway, a landscape in a bedroom. The price then follows the mural grid, from 150 € per sqm for a line drawing and 250 € for a fully painted subject.
