I come and paint at your place in Collioure, by brush, and the place stays open while I work.
Matisse arrived in Collioure on 16 May 1905 and Derain joined him in early July, staying until 31 August. That summer the two painted the port of Avall, the Voramar and Saint-Vincent beach, and used colour to express emotion, more than to reproduce reality. Fauvism was born there, shown at the Salon d’Automne the same year. In Collioure, Giulia paints for village houses, villas and venues.
What Giulia brings to Collioure. Here colour became emotion: that is exactly how Giulia works, with vivid tones chosen for what they make you feel. She loves what Matisse and Derain drew from this light, and proposes a palette from it, and builds each mural by talking with the person she paints for. Giulia is a painter, trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work, and her mural of over twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. The wall is her favourite canvas because it truly becomes part of a place, a unique work made to tell your story.
Live painting is available in Collioure too. Giulia arrives with canvas and paints, works through a seaside wedding, a summer evening or a birthday, and the painting is yours at the end of the evening. From 950 € for a wedding, from 400 € for a performance. See live painting →

With Giulia Dal Bon, the price per square metre includes the paint and materials, the first two sketches and the protective varnish as a finish. While she paints, you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Added to the quote, when needed, are the scaffolding for a facade and travel costs, agreed together. The quote is free and arrives within 48 hours; a deposit of about 100 € for materials confirms the date, and the balance is settled at the end.
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She paints murals by brush in homes, bedrooms, bathrooms, on terraces, pool walls and facades, and travels in Collioure as she does across Europe. Send her a photo of the wall, its approximate dimensions and your idea, however loose: she replies within 48 hours with a quote and a first proposal. The first two sketches are free. The guide Who to hire to have a wall painted helps you prepare your request for a wall in Collioure.
Always. You receive a sketch set on a photo of your own wall, to scale, together with the quote. The first two sketches are free: Giulia shows the work in progress, you give your opinion, and she adjusts. You confirm when you are ready.
The paint goes onto the plaster already in place. In most cases a dusting down is all that is needed before starting. If the surface has cracks or rising damp, Giulia points it out before quoting and proposes the preparation required. Indoors she uses an odourless acrylic: a child’s bedroom in use or a restaurant that stays open can both be painted. An acrylic mural can later be painted over like any wall paint, if you change your mind in ten years.
All year round. Indoors the odourless acrylic lets the room stay in use while she works, in January as in July. Outdoors she needs a dry wall and a mild temperature. Giulia sets the date with you when she quotes, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves.
Yes. What draws the city comes down to a few elements. The round bell tower standing in the water, the Catalan boats, the pink, yellow and blue facades of the harbour painted by Matisse and Derain in the summer of 1905. Giulia Dal Bon paints all of it with a brush. As a line drawing, the view falls under the 150 € per sqm rate; with colour and shadow, it starts at 250 € per sqm. Free quote within 48 hours.
In Collioure, village houses lend themselves to Mediterranean botanical motifs, sea subjects or a trompe l’oeil where colour matters more than detail. Everything is painted with a brush, in odourless acrylic.
A graffiti artist works with spray cans, and the line is fast and graphic. Giulia Dal Bon paints with a brush: the layers go on one after another, which allows gradients, fine detail and trompe l’oeil. A mural in Collioure becomes a painting made directly on the wall, by hand. While she works, people take the time to watch and take photos.
A mural artist, a muralist, a wall artist or a decorative painter, and the art itself is called mural painting or wall art. Giulia Dal Bon comes from painting: trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, she exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints commissioned murals with a brush. To have one painted, send her a photo of your wall: free quote within 48 hours.
Yes, with surface preparation and paints made for outdoor use. The tramontana and salt call for a well-prepared surface and a resistant finish.
An interior wall can be painted freely. For a facade visible from the street, you generally need the owner’s or building association’s agreement, and a notice to the municipality if the building sits in a protected zone: many buildings in the historic centre are protected. Giulia explains the process before starting.
It depends on the surface, the level of detail and how easy the wall is to reach. Giulia gives the timing with the quote, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves. The place keeps running while she works: the acrylic is odourless.
The murals Giulia Dal Bon paints last a lifetime indoors: the paint becomes part of the plaster and lives as long as the wall. Outdoors, quartz paint is made for facades, and an anti-salt or anti-pollution varnish extends it further. And if one day you want a change, it can be painted over like any wall paint.

In Collioure, in an apartment, Giulia paints on an interior wall : the living room, the bedroom and the kitchen. She paints the bathroom, the entrance and the hallway just as readily. The ceiling is painted too: that is the €350 per sqm band, with trompe-l’oeil. Outside, she switches to quartz paint on the exterior facade. In a rented place, she paints on a mobile panel that you take with you.
In a boutique in Collioure, the painted window is seen from the street, stays painted after closing. For a hotel, she paints the entrance hall and the rooms, one by one.
In Le Faubourg, Port d’Avall and Saint-Vincent, you send her a photo of the wall and she draws the sketch straight onto it, then you shape the idea together.
As for the subject, Giulia draws what you want to see on that particular wall: a landscape, a floral or botanical motif, a painted sky on a ceiling, a perspective trompe-l’oeil, figures, animals, lettering or a painted sign. She also reproduces an existing work. Two sketches come to you before the first brushstroke.
Possible subjects in Collioure: the yellow and blue facades of the harbour painted by Matisse and Derain in the summer of 1905, the round bell tower standing in the water, the Catalan boats, the pink facades. Alongside these, a trompe-l’oeil window, a botanical motif or a painted sky remain possible.
A mural is also called a wall mural, an artistic painting on a wall, a wall decoration. People say mural decoration, decorative painting, trompe-l’oeil, hand-painted wall, drawing on a wall, or a painting made directly on the wall: in every case someone paints the wall by hand, layer after layer. In Collioure, the craft is called mural artist, muralist, wall artist or decorative painter, and it is Giulia Dal Bon’s.
In the summer of 1905 Matisse and Derain painted the first Fauve canvases in Collioure, shown at the Salon d’Automne the same year.
Giulia also travels throughout Occitanie.
