Send me a photo of the wall and I draw a sketch straight onto your photo. You tell me what you think. The first two sketches are included.
The quote
Once the sketch is approved, I send you the quote and we set the date together.
I paint the wall
I come and paint at your nursery, with a brush, and the place stays open while I work.
Painting at a child’s eye level
In a nursery the most useful wall is the one a child sees from the floor. Giulia composes the lower band for a gaze at fifty centimetres: animals at their own size, a frieze to follow with a finger, shapes and colours to name. The upper part of the wall stays calm, which keeps the room bright and easy for the adults.
The places that come up most: the big playroom wall, the coat-peg corridor where each child finds their own spot, the sleep room with a soft sky or leaves, the changing room, the entrance where parents wait in the morning, and the garden wall.
A line drawing or a simple motif stays at 150 € per sqm, even with many figures. A fully painted subject moves to 250 €, and a painted sky above the cots to 350 €.
The nursery stays open
The first question is always the smell. Giulia paints in odourless acrylic: the room next door stays in use, the children stay on site, and every section stays available. She protects the floor, works section by section and leaves the area clean each evening. Many nurseries still choose a weekend or a closing week: the dates are set with you.
As a finish she applies a protective varnish. The wall then wipes clean with a damp sponge and the paint stays intact: that is what is needed at the height of hands, snacks and trolleys. The mural lasts a lifetime.
The work itself is a show for the children. They take the time to look, come back to see what has moved on, recognise an animal that appeared the day before. It is also a good story to tell the parents, in pictures, day after day.
Who commissions it, and from which budget
The request comes from the nursery manager, the operator of a group of settings, the early years department of a local authority, or a company opening a workplace nursery. The wall is funded from the works budget, from the fit-out budget of a new opening, or from the authority.
The quote is itemised line by line and the invoice is made out to the setting. For a group opening several sites, Giulia quotes each nursery separately: the same world can be carried from one setting to the next, or change completely at each address.

How much does a 12 sqm mural cost in a nursery?
Giulia Dal Bon paints by the square metre: 1,800 € for a line drawing or a simple motif, 3,000 € for a fully painted subject, 4,200 € for a trompe-l’oeil or a ceiling. The price includes the paint and the materials, the first two sketches and the finishing varnish. The quote is free, arrives within 48 hours and itemises every line.
Can the coat-peg corridor be painted?
Yes, and it is one of the most useful walls. A motif, a colour or a small animal painted above each peg lets a child find their own place on their own. That is a line drawing or a simple motif, at 150 € per sqm, and the whole corridor is quoted in one go.
Can several nurseries in the same group be painted?
Yes. Giulia quotes each setting separately, with one quote per site and an invoice made out to each. The world can be carried from one nursery to the next to keep a shared identity, or change completely at each address.
Who paints the mural?
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where she also studied restoration. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints murals in seventeen European countries. Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work, and her mural of more than twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. She paints with a brush, layer after layer, and signs the work if you wish.
What paint is used, and how long does it last?
Indoors, odourless acrylic colour: the place stays open for the whole of the work. Outdoors, quartz paint, made for façades, with anti-salt varnish by the sea and anti-pollution varnish in the city. As a finish Giulia applies a protective varnish: the mural lasts a lifetime, and the wall wipes clean with a damp sponge, leaving the paint intact.
Where does Giulia travel?
To seventeen countries across Europe, from big cities to small villages. She comes to see the wall, or works from your photos and measurements when everything starts at a distance. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish. Write her the name of the town and she will tell you how she would go about it; travel costs and logistics are agreed together.
