A painted wall becomes a stop on the route
The welcome wall of a tourist office is a visitor’s first contact with a place. Painted by hand, it says at once what there is to see: the landscape, the harbour, the vineyards, the mountain, the monument, the local product. A painted map of the area holds a large wall and does a real job: people read it, photograph it, find the villages around.
Outside, a mural becomes a stop on the walking route. A gable wall, a façade on a square, a car park wall, a substation, a hoarding: people have their photo taken there, and the picture travels far beyond. It is the kind of wall that later shows up in searches about the town.
Giulia also draws signage by hand: a painted street name, an arrow towards the viewpoint, a stage marker, the lettering of a market hall. She studied graphic design at the Brera Academy, and composes lettering for the wall rather than enlarging it.
The work is part of the programme
A wall painted live draws a crowd. Residents and visitors take the time to look, admire, photograph, come back to see what has moved on. For a tourist office the work is an event in itself: it can be told day by day, the local press takes an interest, and the mural already exists in pictures before it is finished.
Giulia can also paint live during an event: a town festival, a producers’ market, a festival, an opening. The canvas is completed in front of the public and stays with the organisation afterwards. A performance starts at 400 €.
Outside, quartz paint is made for façades, with anti-pollution varnish in the city and anti-graffiti varnish on a wall reachable from the street. Indoors, odourless acrylic keeps the welcome desk open throughout, and the protective varnish leaves the wall washable with a damp sponge.
Who commissions it, and from which budget
The request comes from the head of the tourist office, the communications manager, the destination team of a group of councils, or a traders’ association improving a street. The wall is funded from the communications budget, the fit-out budget, or an events budget.

Can a map of the area be painted on a wall?
Yes, and it is one of the most useful subjects in a welcome area. Giulia Dal Bon composes the map for the wall, with the villages, the hills, the roads and the places to visit drawn by hand. A line drawing, however detailed, stays at 150 € per sqm; a fully painted map, with its colour and shadow, moves to 250 €.
Can a mural bring visitors in?

How much does a 20 sqm mural cost on a town wall?
Giulia Dal Bon paints by the square metre: 3,000 € for a line drawing or a simple motif, 5,000 € for a fully painted subject, 7,000 € for a trompe-l’oeil or a ceiling. The price includes the paint and the materials, the first two sketches and the finishing varnish. The quote is free, arrives within 48 hours and itemises every line.
Can signage be painted by hand?
Yes. Giulia draws the lettering by hand and composes it for the wall: a painted street name, an arrow towards a viewpoint, a stage marker, the sign of a market hall. She studied graphic design at the Brera Academy and works on the wall as readily as on the print-ready file.
How long does a mural last on a façade?
A lifetime. Outside Giulia paints in quartz paint, made for façades, with anti-salt varnish by the sea and anti-pollution varnish in the city. On a wall reachable from the street, an anti-graffiti varnish allows cleaning while the paint stays intact.
Who paints the mural?
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where she also studied restoration. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints murals in seventeen European countries. Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work, and her mural of more than twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. She paints with a brush, layer after layer, and signs the work if you wish.
What paint is used, and how long does it last?
Indoors, odourless acrylic colour: the place stays open for the whole of the work. Outdoors, quartz paint, made for façades, with anti-salt varnish by the sea and anti-pollution varnish in the city. As a finish Giulia applies a protective varnish: the mural lasts a lifetime, and the wall wipes clean with a damp sponge, leaving the paint intact.

To seventeen countries across Europe, from big cities to small villages. She comes to see the wall, or works from your photos and measurements when everything starts at a distance.
