Flowers on the wall, from line to colour
Giulia Dal Bon loves painting plants, and a flower can be painted on a wall in three ways. As a line drawing, the fine brush traces the outline of petals and stems in black or coloured lines on the pale wall: that is the line drawing tier, at 150 € per sqm, even for a large bouquet or a branch reaching across the whole width of a room.
Fully painted, the flowers take on their colours, shadows and volume: the yellow heart of a pansy, the clusters of a lilac, mimosa against a dark background, orange birds of paradise above a bed. That is the fully painted subject tier, at 250 € per sqm.
On a ceiling or in trompe-l’oeil, Giulia paints wisteria around a false window, foliage across a corridor ceiling, a pergola above a dining table. Around 1498, Leonardo da Vinci painted a pergola of mulberry trees in the Sala delle Asse of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, its branches and golden cords covering the entire vault. That room is one of Giulia’s great inspirations, and she paints these foliage ceilings at the trompe-l’oeil tier, at 350 € per sqm.
Around the home, room by room
In a bedroom, Giulia Dal Bon paints the flowers behind the headboard, where the wall is clear: birds of paradise rising to the ceiling, a cherry branch across the width of the bed, a bouquet in line drawing. In a living room, she paints a garden across a whole wall, or foliage around a window.
In a stairwell, wisteria can climb step by step up to the next floor, and in a hallway a frieze of flowers follows the passage. For a child’s room, Giulia also paints the jungle, big leaves and hidden animals, shown on the children’s bedroom murals page.
Indoors, Giulia paints in odourless acrylic: the room stays lived in while she works. A 3 sqm headboard wall comes to about 450 € in line-drawn flowers, and about 750 € in fully painted flowers.
In a restaurant, a hotel, a shop
In a restaurant dining room, Giulia Dal Bon painted two women dining under a lemon tree, above the real tables. For a hotel, a bar or a spa, she paints tropical plants, palm fronds and big leaves; for a shop, flowering branches above the counter or on the window.
The venue stays open while she paints, and customers take the time to watch the mural take shape. A 15 sqm dining room wall, fully painted, comes to about 3,750 €.
On a facade, for a town
In Segrate, the town commissioned Giulia Dal Bon to paint a mural on the bowls club house for its town festival, “Io sono Segrate”, together with the associazione FGA: Giulia painted a flowering meadow and a wide sky across its walls. A courtyard wall, a garden wall, the facade of a shop or a school welcome flowers in the same way.
Outdoors, Giulia paints with quartz paint, made for facades, with an anti-salt varnish by the sea. Giulia paints outdoors all year round, on a dry wall and in mild weather: she checks the forecast with you and sets the date. On a facade, scaffolding is added to the quote if needed.
Choosing your flowers
The subject starts with you: a photo of your garden, the flower you love, the tree at your childhood home, the colours of your sofa and curtains. Giulia Dal Bon draws the sketch straight onto the photo of your wall, so you see the flowers in place, at the real scale of the room. To start, a photo of the wall and its measurements are enough: Giulia draws the sketch straight onto it, then comes to paint on site.
The flowers of the place find their way in too: mimosa and lemon trees on the Mediterranean, lavender in Provence, wisteria at a lakeside villa. And if you arrive with an AI-generated image, Giulia keeps it as an intention and redraws it at the true size of the wall: a mural painted by hand is recognisable, and it stands out all the more today.

Line-drawn or fully painted flowers: what is the difference?
In line drawing, Giulia Dal Bon traces the outline of flowers and leaves with a fine brush, with a touch of colour if you like: the drawing carries the image. Fully painted, the flowers have their colours, shadows and volume, as in a painting. Giulia shows you both versions on the sketch drawn onto the photo of your wall, and you choose. Line-drawn flowers are 150 € per sqm, fully painted flowers 250 € per sqm.
Which flowers and plants can be painted on a wall?
Any you love: roses, peonies, lilac, wisteria, mimosa, poppies, cherry blossom, birds of paradise, lemon trees, olive trees, palms, ferns, big tropical leaves. Who paints the mural?
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls, by brush, in seventeen European countries.
