When you write to me about a mural at your gym, here is what happens next.
A photo of the wall with the sketch
Send me a photo of the wall and I draw a sketch straight onto your photo. You tell me what you think. The first two sketches are included.
The quote
Once the sketch is approved, I send you the quote and we set the date together.
I paint the wall
I come and paint at your gym, with a brush, and the place stays open while I work.
The wall everybody looks at
A gym has one wall that matters more than the others: the one you face while training, behind the mats, at the end of the free-weights area, or in line with the mirror. It is the wall that appears in every photo and every video members post, and that is where a mural does the most work.
The subjects that hold a format that size: a body in movement drawn in line, a mountain, a wave, a panoramic landscape, a graphic motif running the length of the wall, the club name drawn and painted by hand. A line drawing, even ten metres long, stays at 150 € per sqm; a fully painted subject moves to 250 €.
Then come the reception, the changing-room corridor, the class studio, the yoga room where a calm scheme changes the session, the pool wall, and the outdoor wall of a padel club, painted in quartz paint.
A wall that takes it, and washes
A gym is a busy place: hands, bags, balls, humidity. As a finish Giulia applies a protective varnish: the wall wipes clean with a damp sponge and the paint stays intact, and the mural lasts a lifetime. On a padel wall or an outdoor wall, quartz paint and anti-graffiti varnish take over.
The room stays open while she works: the acrylic is odourless, she protects the floor and the machines around her, works section by section and leaves the area clean each evening. Many clubs prefer quiet hours or early morning: the dates are set with you.
The work is content in itself. Members take the time to look, photograph the wall as it grows, and the club tells the story day by day on its channels. The finished wall then becomes the backdrop of every training photo.
Who commissions it, and from which budget
The request comes from the owner or manager of the gym, the network manager of a chain opening several clubs, the chair of a sports club, or a local authority for a municipal sports hall or games court. The wall is funded from the fit-out budget of an opening, a refurbishment budget, or the marketing budget.
The quote is itemised line by line and the invoice is made out to the company or the club. For a chain opening several sites, Giulia quotes each one separately, with a subject of its own for each city.

Yes, and Giulia draws it by hand rather than enlarging it. She also studied graphic design at the Brera Academy: the lettering is composed for the wall, to scale, with the rest of the scheme around it. The painted name becomes the backdrop of every training photo.
How much does a 40 sqm mural cost in a gym?
Giulia Dal Bon paints by the square metre: 6,000 € for a line drawing or a simple motif, 10,000 € for a fully painted subject, 14,000 € for a trompe-l’oeil or a ceiling. The price includes the paint and the materials, the first two sketches and the finishing varnish. The quote is free, arrives within 48 hours and itemises every line.

Can several gyms in the same chain be painted?
Yes. Giulia quotes each site separately, with one quote per gym and an invoice made out to the company. The world can be carried from one gym to the next to keep a shared identity, with a subject of its own for each city.
Who paints the mural?
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where she also studied restoration. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints murals in seventeen European countries. Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work, and her mural of more than twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. She paints with a brush, layer after layer, and signs the work if you wish.
What paint is used, and how long does it last?
Indoors, odourless acrylic colour: the place stays open for the whole of the work. Outdoors, quartz paint, made for façades, with anti-salt varnish by the sea and anti-pollution varnish in the city. As a finish Giulia applies a protective varnish: the mural lasts a lifetime, and the wall wipes clean with a damp sponge, leaving the paint intact.
Where does Giulia travel?
To seventeen countries across Europe, from big cities to small villages. She comes to see the wall, or works from your photos and measurements when everything starts at a distance. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish. Write her the name of the town and she will tell you how she would go about it; travel costs and logistics are agreed together.
