The contemporary art museum of Ibiza opened in 1969 in the former armoury of the citadel, built in 1727 on the bastion of Sant Joan, inside the Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila. Its collection grew out of Grup Ibiza 59, an artists' group founded on the island ten years earlier. Dalt Vila is the historic core in the upper part of Ibiza town, one of the best-preserved walled complexes in the Mediterranean, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. Around it, the island alternates traditional whitewashed houses and contemporary villas. In Ibiza, Giulia paints for homes, villas and venues.
What Giulia brings to Ibiza. Giulia is a painter, trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have covered her work, and her mural of more than twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci stands in Milan. The wall is her favourite canvas because it truly becomes part of a place, a unique work made to tell your story.

The Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila were ordered by Philip II and directed by the Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi: work began in 1554 and lasted about thirty-one years. It is the only Renaissance fortress still complete in Europe, together with Valletta. In 1999 UNESCO listed the upper town together with the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, the Phoenician site of sa Caleta and the posidonia meadows.
Ibiza therefore has, behind the clubs, a sixteenth-century upper town of thick walls, pale plaster and shaded courtyards. Giulia Dal Bon paints there with a brush, in the houses of Dalt Vila, the villas of the countryside, hotels and restaurants, using odourless acrylic colours indoors, quartz paint and anti-salt varnish for exposed facades. From 150 € per sqm, free quote within 48 hours.
Giulia also paints live in Ibiza. For a wedding, a hotel evening or a private party, she sets up her easel and the painting takes shape in front of your guests, signed and taken home the same evening. From 950 € for a wedding, from 400 € for a performance. For a wedding, everything is on the live wedding painting in Ibiza page.
A photo of the wall, its approximate dimensions and the idea you have in mind are enough to receive a quote.
The rate is per square metre: €150 for a line drawing or a simple motif, €250 for a fully painted subject, €350 for a trompe l’oeil or ceiling. The quote is free: see all prices.
Write to Giulia Dal Bon on WhatsApp or by email, even if the idea is still vague: she replies within 48 hours. Send her a photo of the wall to be painted, she draws a sketch straight onto your photo, you tell her what you think, and the first two sketches are free. Once the sketch is approved, she sends you the quote, from 150 € per sqm in Ibiza, and sets the date with you. She then comes and paints the mural at your place in Ibiza, by brush, and the place stays open while she works.
With Giulia Dal Bon, the price per square metre includes the paint and materials, the first two sketches and the protective varnish as a finish. While she paints, you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Added to the quote, when needed, are the scaffolding for a facade and travel costs, agreed together. The quote is free and arrives within 48 hours; a deposit of about 100 € for materials confirms the date, and the balance is settled at the end.
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She paints murals by brush in homes, bedrooms, bathrooms, on terraces, pool walls and facades, and travels in Ibiza as she does across Europe. Send her a photo of the wall, its approximate dimensions and your idea, however loose: she replies within 48 hours with a quote and a first proposal. The first two sketches are free.
Always. You receive a sketch set on a photo of your own wall, to scale, together with the quote. The first two sketches are free: Giulia shows the work in progress, you give your opinion, and she adjusts. You confirm when you are ready.
The paint goes onto the plaster already in place. In most cases a dusting down is all that is needed before starting. If the surface has cracks or rising damp, Giulia points it out before quoting and proposes the preparation required. Indoors she uses an odourless acrylic: a child’s bedroom in use or a restaurant that stays open can both be painted. An acrylic mural can later be painted over like any wall paint, if you change your mind in ten years.
All year round. Indoors the odourless acrylic lets the room stay in use while she works, in January as in July. Outdoors she needs a dry wall and a mild temperature. Giulia sets the date with you when she quotes, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves.
Yes, and the city lends itself to it. Dalt Vila behind its walls, the cathedral at the summit, the white houses in tiers and the harbour below. Giulia Dal Bon composes the view for the wall in front of her. As a line drawing, 150 € per sqm; painted in colour, 250 € per sqm. Free quote within 48 hours.
In Ibiza, the whitewashed houses and villas lend themselves to Mediterranean botanical motifs, sea subjects or a restrained trompe l’oeil that respects the lime walls. Everything is painted with a brush, in odourless acrylic. If you are still choosing the subject of your mural in Ibiza, the guide What subject to choose for a mural reviews the options room by room.
Two gestures, two finishes. The spray can gives a fast, graphic line. The brush lays colour down layer after layer, which opens up gradients, fine detail and trompe l’oeil: the mural becomes a painting on the wall. In Ibiza, Giulia Dal Bon works with a brush, in odourless acrylic indoors, and the place stays open while she paints. The choice comes down to the finish you are after.
A muralist, a mural artist or a decorative painter. In Ibiza, Giulia Dal Bon paints by hand with a brush, from apartments to façades: trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, she exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls. The same searches go through wall mural, hand-painted wall or wall art. Send a photo of your wall, and the quote arrives within 48 hours.
Yes, with surface preparation and paints made for outdoor use. Intense sun and salt: an exterior needs an anti-salt primer and a UV-resistant finish.
An interior wall can be painted freely. For a facade visible from the street, you generally need the owner’s or building association’s agreement, and a notice to the municipality if the building sits in a protected zone: many buildings in the historic centre are protected. Giulia explains the process before starting.
It depends on the surface, the level of detail and how easy the wall is to reach. Giulia gives the timing with the quote, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves. The place keeps running while she works: the acrylic is odourless.
Painted in acrylic by Giulia Dal Bon, a mural lasts a lifetime indoors: the paint becomes part of the plaster and lives as long as the wall. Outdoors, quartz paint is made for facades, and an anti-salt or anti-pollution varnish extends it further. And if one day you want a change, it can be painted over like any wall paint.

The 20-metre-plus wall for Gaber and Jannacci, in Milan, in the press
Giulia Dal Bon, trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan.
In Ibiza, Giulia paints on an interior wall : the living room, the bedroom and the kitchen. The same work applies to the bathroom, the entrance and the hallway. The ceiling is painted too: that is the €350 per sqm band, with trompe-l’oeil. On the exterior facade, quartz paint takes over from acrylic: it is made for facades. She also paints on a mobile panel, when the wall belongs to someone else.
The venues that welcome her in Ibiza range from apartment to boutique, with hotel in between.
In Dalt Vila, Marina and Santa Eulalia, a photo of the wall is enough to start: Giulia draws the sketch onto it, and your idea comes together with her.
The subject is decided together. A landscape opens up the far end of a room, a floral or botanical motif runs along a wall, a painted sky fills a ceiling, a perspective trompe-l’oeil draws a window on a solid wall. Giulia also paints figures, animals, lettering, painted signs, and reproduces an existing work when you ask her to.
Possible subjects in Ibiza: the white houses in tiers and the harbour below, dalt Vila behind its walls, the cathedral at the summit. And always the trompe-l’oeil window, the botanical motif and the painted sky on a ceiling.
People ask for different things and mean the same one: a mural, a wall mural, an artistic painting on a wall. Others say wall decoration, decorative painting, mural decoration. Others again a trompe-l’oeil, a hand-painted wall, a drawing on a wall, or a painting made directly on the wall. It is one craft, that of a mural artist, a muralist, a decorative painter, and Giulia does it with a brush in Ibiza.
Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s fortified historic core, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999.
Giulia also travels throughout the Balearic Islands.
