Once the sketch is approved, I send you the quote and we set the date together.
I come and paint at your place in Santorini, by brush, and the place stays open while I work.
In Santorini, most of the hotels and suites in Oia, Imerovigli and Fira are set in yposkafa, the traditional houses carved directly into the volcanic rock of the caldera, more than three hundred metres above the sea. Oia, on the northern rim of the caldera, brings together Cycladic architecture, cliff-carved houses and domed chapels. In Santorini, Giulia paints for cave hotels, suites and villas. Giulia travels easily to Santorini to paint: you send her a photo of the wall and she draws the sketch straight onto it, so you see the mural in place before she travels.
What Giulia brings to Santorini. A house carved into rock has a single window, and light is everything. Giulia paints that way, with a brush, with the colour and energy that are her own. She watches how the caldera light enters each room, and builds each mural with the person she paints for. Giulia is a painter, trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She exhibits her paintings in art galleries and also paints on walls. Corriere della Sera, Domus and Sky Arte have written about her work, and her mural of over twenty metres dedicated to Gaber and Jannacci can be seen in Milan. The wall is her favourite canvas because it truly becomes part of a place, a unique work made to tell your story.

At Akrotiri, Spyridon Marinatos excavated from 1967 to 1974 a Bronze Age town buried by the pumice and ash of the eruption, between 1650 and 1550 BC. The walls of almost every house were painted, and the paintings survived almost intact: the Spring with its seven swallows, the Boxing Boys, the processions. They are now in the Museum of Prehistoric Thera and the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
Santorini therefore holds the oldest domestic wall paintings in Europe: ordinary people who had the walls of their homes painted, three and a half thousand years ago. Giulia Dal Bon paints there with a brush, in the hotels cut into the rock, the white houses of Oia and Imerovigli, the restaurants on the caldera, using odourless acrylic colours indoors, quartz paint and anti-salt varnish outdoors. From 150 € per sqm, free quote within 48 hours.
Live painting is available in Santorini too. Giulia arrives with canvas and paints, works through a wedding, a hotel evening or a private party, and the painting is yours at the end of the evening. From 950 € for a wedding, from 400 € for a performance. For a wedding, everything is on the live wedding painting in Santorini page.
A photo of the wall, its approximate dimensions and the idea you have in mind are enough to receive a quote.
The rate is per square metre: €150 for a line drawing or a simple motif, €250 for a fully painted subject, €350 for a trompe l’oeil or ceiling. The quote is free: see all prices.
Write to Giulia Dal Bon on WhatsApp or by email, even if the idea is still vague: she replies within 48 hours. Send her a photo of the wall to be painted, she draws a sketch straight onto your photo, you tell her what you think, and the first two sketches are free. Once the sketch is approved, she sends you the quote, from 150 € per sqm in Santorini, and sets the date with you. She then comes and paints the mural at your place in Santorini, by brush, and the place stays open while she works.
The square-metre price Giulia Dal Bon quotes includes the paint and materials, the first two sketches and the protective varnish as a finish. While she paints, you tell her what you think, and she adjusts. Added to the quote, when needed, are the scaffolding for a facade and travel costs, agreed together. The quote is free and arrives within 48 hours; a deposit of about 100 € for materials confirms the date, and the balance is settled at the end.
Giulia Dal Bon, a painter trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. She paints murals by brush in homes, bedrooms, bathrooms, on terraces, pool walls and facades, and travels in Santorini as she does across Europe. Send her a photo of the wall, its approximate dimensions and your idea, however loose: she replies within 48 hours with a quote and a first proposal. The first two sketches are free. To have a wall painted in Santorini, the guide Who to hire to have a wall painted explains the words of the craft and how to choose.
Always. You receive a sketch set on a photo of your own wall, to scale, together with the quote. The first two sketches are free: Giulia shows the work in progress, you give your opinion, and she adjusts. You confirm when you are ready.
The paint goes onto the plaster already in place. In most cases a dusting down is all that is needed before starting. If the surface has cracks or rising damp, Giulia points it out before quoting and proposes the preparation required. Indoors she uses an odourless acrylic: a child’s bedroom in use or a restaurant that stays open can both be painted. An acrylic mural can later be painted over like any wall paint, if you change your mind in ten years.
All year round. Indoors the odourless acrylic lets the room stay in use while she works, in January as in July. Outdoors she needs a dry wall and a mild temperature. Giulia sets the date with you when she quotes, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves.
Yes, and it is a subject that sits well on a large wall. The white houses and blue domes along the caldera rim, the yposkafa carved into the rock, and the sun dropping behind the sea at Oia. Giulia Dal Bon paints it with a brush, on site. The rate follows the technique: 150 € per sqm for a line drawing, 250 € for a fully painted view. Free quote within 48 hours.
In Santorini, in suites carved into volcanic rock, where light enters from one side only, a pale mural or a sky painted on the vault opens up the space. Everything is painted with a brush, in odourless acrylic.
Spray can and brush give two different results. The brush works in layers, which makes gradients, fine detail and trompe l’oeil possible: that is why a mural can be looked at like a painting. In Santorini, Giulia Dal Bon paints by hand, in odourless acrylic indoors and quartz paint outdoors. A painting made by hand shows, and it stands out all the more today.
A muralist, or a decorative painter; the word fresco painter exists too, for the old technique. In Santorini, that is the work of Giulia Dal Bon: trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, she exhibits her paintings in art galleries and paints commissioned murals with a brush. People also search for it as mural painting, wall mural or hand-painted wall. Send her a photo of your wall: free quote within 48 hours.
Yes, with surface preparation and quartz paint, made for outdoor walls. In Santorini wind, sun and salt are strong on the caldera: lightfast pigments are used and, on request, an anti-salt varnish.
An interior wall can be painted freely. For a facade visible from the street, you generally need the owner’s or building association’s agreement, and a notice to the municipality if the building sits in a protected zone: many buildings in the historic centre are protected. Giulia explains the process before starting.
It depends on the surface, the level of detail and how easy the wall is to reach. Giulia gives the timing with the quote, within 48 hours, and gives plenty of notice if the schedule moves. The place keeps running while she works: the acrylic is odourless.
The murals Giulia Dal Bon paints last a lifetime indoors: the paint becomes part of the plaster and lives as long as the wall. Outdoors, quartz paint is made for facades, and an anti-salt or anti-pollution varnish extends it further. And if one day you want a change, it can be painted over like any wall paint.

The 20-metre-plus wall for Gaber and Jannacci, in Milan, in the press
Giulia Dal Bon, trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan.
In Santorini, she paints on an interior wall : the living room, the bedroom and the kitchen. She also paints the bathroom, the entrance and the hallway. The ceiling is painted too: that is the €350 per sqm band, with trompe-l’oeil. On the exterior facade, quartz paint takes over from acrylic: it is made for facades. A mobile panel is painted separately, and moves with you.
She paints in venues as different as apartment and boutique, and in hotel.
From Oia to Pyrgos, by way of Imerovigli, Fira and Firostefani, Giulia paints all over Santorini. A photo of the wall and its dimensions are enough to start: Giulia draws the sketch straight onto it.
The subject comes from you. Giulia draws a landscape, a floral or botanical motif, a painted sky on a ceiling, a perspective trompe-l’oeil. She paints figures and animals, letters signs and lettering by hand, and reproduces a work you love.
Possible subjects in Santorini: the sun dropping behind the sea at Oia, the white houses and blue domes along the caldera rim, the yposkafa carved into the rock. A trompe-l’oeil window, a botanical motif and a painted sky work just as well.
Very different words lead to the same search: mural, wall mural, artistic painting on a wall, wall decoration, mural decoration, decorative painting. Trompe-l’oeil is one form of it, a hand-painted wall and a drawing on a wall are others, and some look for a painting made directly on the wall. Behind those words, one craft in Santorini: mural artist, muralist, wall artist, decorative painter.
