Getting married in Mallorca
Why do so many couples marry in Mallorca?
Mallorca is, with Ibiza, the leading luxury wedding destination in Spain. Couples come for several days, often fifty or a hundred guests, and the great fincas of the island are booked up to eighteen months ahead for Saturdays between May and September.
Why does a painter love Mallorca?
In 1870 Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria bought Son Marroig and the neighbouring estate of Miramar, above Deià, and spent the rest of his life having his island surveyed, drawn and engraved: nine volumes, Die Balearen. The small Carrara marble temple he raised facing the pierced rock of Sa Foradada still looks out to sea, and it is now one of the places where people marry on the west coast.
What does the painting show?

The wedding venues in Mallorca
Giulia travels to the villas and reception venues of the island: Son Marroig (Deià), Finca Comassema (Orient), Cap Rocat (Cala Blava), Castell Son Claret (Es Capdellà).
From the terrace of Son Marroig, on the canvas you can see the rock of Sa Foradada with its hole open to the sea, and the white marble temple in the foreground. At Finca Comassema, the olive trees and dry stone walls of the Orient valley come into the painting. At Cap Rocat, the wall of the old fortress and the bay of Palma behind.

What is the best season in Mallorca?
The season runs from April to October. In July and August most fincas set dinner at nightfall: Giulia then paints under the lights of the party, and the canvas leaves with you at the end of the evening. Giulia is available all year round, winter dates included.
What do we need to arrange on site?
A space of roughly two by two metres, away from the flow but visible to the guests, a power socket and light if she paints in the evening. Giulia brings her easel, canvases, acrylics and brushes. That is all the venue needs to know.
Can she paint outdoors, in full sun, in a finca garden?
Yes. Giulia sets her easel in the shade of a wall or a tree: it protects the canvas and keeps the colours true, because in full sun the white ground throws back the light and misleads the eye. On the large inland fincas the shade of the olive trees is enough. Just tell her where the cocktail hour will be held and she picks her spot on arrival.
