Why do so many couples marry in Sicily?

Sicily is among the fastest-growing Italian destinations for foreign weddings. In 2025 nearly half the couples marrying in Italy came from outside Europe, from Canada to Australia, from Brazil to India. Giulia Dal Bon paints live wedding paintings there, from 950 € for the painting made on site, work handed over. She speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish, which matters when guests come from several countries. Free quote within 48 hours.

Why does a painter love Sicily?

For Villa Igiea in Palermo, which the Florio family entrusted in 1899 to the architect Ernesto Basile: first intended as a sanatorium, it became a grand hotel, opened in 1900, and the manifesto of Sicilian Art Nouveau. Its ballroom, the Sala Basile, is entirely frescoed by Ettore De Maria Bergler with Luigi Di Giovanni and Michele Cortegiani: Morning Scent, Floralia, Evening Scent. Giulia paints a wedding in Sicily with those painted flowers in mind, and the sea behind.

What does the painting show?

The moment you choose: the ceremony, the exit, the first dance, the cocktail hour with the guests, or the venue itself with the couple in the foreground. Giulia prepares the composition beforehand from your photographs and images of the venue, then paints on site in Sicily. You know what you will get before the day itself.

Does Giulia know the area?

She comes to Sicily and travels across seventeen European countries. She looks at the venue before painting: the light, the colours, the architecture, and what the view gives at cocktail hour. Send her the name of your venue and she will tell you what she would make of it.

The wedding venues in Sicily

Giulia travels to the villas and reception venues of the area: Villa Igiea (Palermo), Villa Tasca, Tonnara di Scopello, San Domenico Palace (Taormina).

From the gardens of Villa Igiea, on the canvas you can see the gulf of Palermo behind the couple and Monte Pellegrino at the back. At Villa Tasca, the palm trees and the pool of the historic park. At San Domenico Palace in Taormina, the bay and Etna closing the horizon. At the Tonnara di Scopello, the faraglioni standing in the water.

She also works in Taormina, Syracuse, Noto, Ragusa, Modica, Palermo, Cefalù, Catania, Marzamemi, Scopello, Favignana, Mount Etna.

Does Giulia work in the great villas and estates?

Yes, and she adapts to the house rules of each venue: she stands where she is least in the way, protects the floor around her and leaves with her equipment the same evening. Simply let your venue and your wedding planner know. She also works with agencies and provides a detailed quote that drops straight into a budget.

What is the best season in Sicily?

The season is long, from April to October, and the July and August heat moves many receptions into the evening. Giulia paints in acrylic, which dries fast and handles open air, so an outdoor wedding paints as well as one indoors. Allow for light if she paints in the evening and shelter in case of rain. The dates still open are in the quote, sent within 48 hours. Giulia is available all year round, winter dates included.

What do we need to arrange on site?

A space of roughly two by two metres, away from the flow but visible to the guests, a power socket and light if she paints in the evening. Giulia brings her easel, canvases, acrylics and brushes. That is all the venue needs to know.

Giulia also paints commissioned murals in the area: see murals in Sicily.

Music at your wedding in Sicily: the piano and painting show

For your wedding celebration in Sicily, Giulia also offers the piano and painting show. Orlando plays a neoclassical repertoire, in the line of Ludovico Einaudi or Hania Rani, and Giulia paints while he plays, before guests who take the time to watch and photograph the canvas. On the last note the painting is revealed, and it is yours to keep. The show is prepared with you and your wedding venue, on request.

Live painting in Sicily, for another occasion

Giulia also paints in Sicily beyond weddings. Tell her what you have in mind, even loosely: she suggests a format, adapts it to your evening and your room, and you approve it beforehand. A festival that wants a second stage, a venue looking for a finale, a company hosting its clients: the shape is built with you.

A concert or a festival in Sicily She paints to the music, from the first note of the set to the last, and the canvas is revealed to the audience. From 400 €.

A private party, a birthday, an opening She paints through the evening, and guests leave with their watercolour portrait. From 400 €.
