Born at the château of Maulévrier, in the Vendée, on 26 June 1786, she married Marquis Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo in Paris in 1806 and inherited the vineyards of Barolo, Serralunga and Castiglione Falletto. With Camillo Benso di Cavour, mayor of Grinzane, she moved the wine from the porticoes to underground cellars, and in 1844 Barolo was bottled for the first time as a dry wine: the wine of kings was born of a Frenchwoman.
