A wedding in Menton
The wedding room of Menton town hall, on rue de la République, was decorated by Jean Cocteau in 1957 and 1958: the lovers of Menton, Orpheus and Eurydice. Menton through the year
In Menton, the year begins with the lemon. The Fête du Citron, created in 1934, brings monumental citrus sculptures to the Biovès gardens in February and early March. Giulia Dal Bon painted the mimosa shop window of the festival, for the City of Menton and Les Cookies de JuJu. All year round, the artists’ studios of the old town stay open, on quai Bonaparte, rue Longue, rue de Bréa and rue Mattoni, and in June the municipal art school shows its students’ work at the Palais de l’Europe.
In summer, the Festival de Musique de Menton, created in 1950 by André Böröcz, brings concerts to the forecourt of the Basilica of Saint-Michel Archange and to the Palais de l’Europe from the end of July to the start of August: it is one of the oldest classical music festivals in France.
